BibleLands 2009 Annual Service
On 17 October 2009 we heard from several of our overseas partners, about how BibleLands support makes a real difference in the lives of vulnerable people in the lands where Christ walked.
The keynote speaker this year was Adrienne Strengholt from DUET (Development of Upper Egypt Trust). There were also presentations from Raif Shwayri, CEO of the Al Kafa'at Foundation and Jonathan Lee, director of Refuge Egypt.
The day also included a service of thanksgiving with an address from Baroness Kathleen Richardson, and the chance to chat and mingle with staff, trustees, volunteers and friends.

BibleLands: The Christian Presence
What a wonderful occasion! On 16 April 2008, BibleLands' supporters packed Lambeth Palace for BibleLands: The Christian Presence, the conference organised by the Friends of BibleLands. In his opening address, the Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr Rowan Williams, outlined the contribution which the Christian communities have made over the centuries to life in the Middle East. Archbishop Paul Sayah of the Maronite Church in the Holy Land talked about the need for the churches to work together as they engaged with Islam and Judaism, and the need for their continuing ministry to the poor, the oppressed and the marginalised - a vision shared by BibleLands.
The Coptic Church in Egypt, with some twelve million members, is the largest Christian community and Bishop Angaelos told us of the spiritual renewal led by a revival of the monasteries and leading to a dramatic growth of the Sunday School movement and social development projects in mixed Christian/Muslim villages.
Lord David Steel chaired our final question and answer session with consummate ease. The proceedings were wound up by Bishop Michael Langrish who said that only BibleLands could have brought together such a remarkable group of people for the conference. We must build on this for the future.
